The echo of the war. archaeological excavations in Russia

The great Patriotic war has left thousands of material evidence of the bitter and terrible events, all included in the memory of the people. The land for almost 69 years keeps these “treasures”, time, time showing them to the world. During the excavation of the German bunkers and trenches, a variety of engineering obstacles are interesting little things. Site that remember those terrible events that span thousands of kilometers. Archaeological excavations in Russia are conducted by pathfinders that meet various interests: from scientific, historical, to materialistic, narrow-minded. In the process, they seek to find evidence of life (both household and military) of the Soviet troops and enemy troops.

Excavations in the Tula region

Of great interest to archaeologists of any type (“white”, “gray”, “black”) represent the objects of everyday life of soldiers, uniforms and firearms. Near the village of Kamenskoe excavations of the German dugouts. And this work has yielded good fruit in the form of valuable exhibits, which settled in the district Museum. On the territory of this township was held the offensive two rifle divisions of the enemy – 113 and 338. A detachment of “Patriots” was found near artillery positions weight bullet casings and guns. During excavations, archaeologists remarkableness were surprised to see not far from the surface they found a bottle of cognac (“Hennessy”), which is not easy preserved, but preserved all the contents in excellent condition. There were found some items of ammunition in good condition: helmet, gas mask, shells, and other equipment. They were transferred to the Museum.

Excavations near Novgorod

Many places associated with the suffering of Soviet citizens, once bring horror to the whole population, over time, turned into museums devoted to the great Patriotic war. In Novgorod, thus, and “transformed” by the Nazi GESTAPO. The Museum itself is divided into two flanks. Each relates to a certain theme, representing either the Soviet or German uniforms, household items, equipment. Recently, the Museum has been enriched with new items from the German bunkers. It was discovered the remains of the printing industry issued by the industry of the enemy army. Also there was found the leaves with the German lists, orders, reports, who took their places in the Museum. Military documentation is a little charred because of the German division, hastily gathering during the retreat, burned the military paper. But the lack of oxygen prevented fat binder to burn. So they are only slightly scorched. They were found by Rangers squad “Guard”. We can say that this find is a rarity, because it has about 1500 sheets of personal correspondence, Newspapers, Photographs, military documents.

Today there are active archaeological excavations in Russia, Belarus and other countries of the former USSR, where he was able to deploy the Soviet troops and the enemy troops. So, on the territory of Belarus in spring 2012, Zhlobin district (village Malye Kozlovichi), conducted excavation of dugouts. Because it is here that ran the line of defense, it is very difficult to determine who found engineering obstacles belonged to, because they conquered it first, then the second side. Within artillery builds have found a lot of firearms, half of which was almost in a fighting position.

Archaeological excavations are not only limited to the search for military ammunition, items of everyday life of the soldiers and other war-related. Archaeology, with close relationship with history, cultural studies, anthropology and many other Sciences, trying to build and refute new hypothesis concerning the origin of man, evolution of life on the planet, the existence of a previously unknown species of the animal world and the human race. For example, that found in Yakutia archaeologists in the 90-ies, allows us to develop the idea of the first Russian settlements.
